Improve your shooting skills by getting started in the competitive shooting sports. Intro To Action Shooting Sports is a one day class. We’ll discuss the types of matches, competitive shooting organizations, equipment needs, and participating, before heading to the range for a mock match. Every aspect of your abilities will be challenged in this fast paced sport.

Action Shooting Sports, like USPSA, IDPA, 3Gun, and Multi-Gun, provide complex shooting scenarios and objective performance feedback that’s practically impossible to find anywhere else.

If you’re interested in USPSA, IDPA, 3Gun, or Multi-Gun competition but don’t know where to begin, this class is for you. Intro To Action Shooting will make sure you have the knowledge to attend your first match with confidence.

The action shooting sports are an excellent training ground for anyone wanting to be proficient with their firearms handling skills. Competition provides complex shooting scenarios and objective performance feedback that’s practically impossible to find anywhere else. In this class we’ll discuss the types of competitive shooting matches available, the major organizations, how to find, and register for you first class. We’ll cover required equipment, rules, etiquette, and more.

Following a classroom portion, we’ll head to the range for a mock match using real stages. After completing this training you’ll have everything you need to attend your first real match with confidence. Scores will be recorded and compared to national standards to give you perspective on where you are and where you can grow to.

This isn’t a skill development or “how to shoot like a competitor” class. It’s intended to get acclimated and informed on the shooting sports. If you’re looking for a class on shooting faster, with accuracy try our Practical Handgun Class.

FAQs

Do you provide guns/ammo/equipment?

No. Grey Fox Tactics provides the targets and stage material (ie. walls, target stands, etc.) Ammo, firearms, personal protective equipment, and any other items you will need or want must be brought by you.

I’m not a great shot, is this class appropriate for me?

Absolutely. Action shooting matches have people of all skill levels. Like many sports, you’re really competing against yourself to do better than you did the time before. All you need is to be comfortable handling your firearm, drawing from a holster, capable of accurately hitting a target at 5-10 yards, and familiar with the basic rules of firearm safety.

I have XYZ gun, is that okay?

Probably, yes. As long as it’s a semi-automatic handgun chambered in 9mm-45acp, safe, and functional. Iron sights or red dot are both acceptable. You’ll want a magazine capacity of 10+ rounds to make the day easier. If you have something really strange, feel free to ask.

Can I use my concealed carry holster?

An outside the waistband holster is recommended, but not required. You can not use a shoulder holster, cross draw, soft nylon, or any holster requiring your trigger finger to deactivate the retention device like the Blackhawk SERPA or some Sig branded holsters. An IWB holster is permitted but not preferred. Consider a Bladetech Eclipse/Signature holster or Ghost Hybrid/Civilian for a cost effective OWB holster that will serve you well beyond this class.
